“Like REM is toxic.” - Rapid eye movement sleep (REM sleep, REMS) is a unique phase of mammalian sleep characterized by random movement of the eyes, low muscle tone throughout the body, and the propensity of the sleeper to dream vividly. This phase is also known as paradoxical sleep (PS) and sometimes desynchronized sleep because of physiological similarities to waking states, including rapid, low-voltage desynchronized brain waves. REM was an American rock band from Athens, Georgia, formed in 1980 by singer Michael Stipe, guitarist Peter Buck, bassist Mike Mills, and drummer Bill Berry. One of the first popular alternative rock bands, R.E.M. released its first single, "Radio Free Europe", in 1981. Following years of underground success, R.E.M. achieved a mainstream hit in 1987 with the single "The One I Love". In 2007, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. R.E.M. disbanded amicably in September 2011, announcing the split on its website.
“But most people wouldn't give 'em Up or New Adventures in Hi-Fi either.” - Led off by the single "Daysleeper", Up (1998) debuted in the top ten in the US and UK.
