Denial About the Economic Recession

Nov 22, 2009 23:23

Even though, at the moment, our country is in an economic recession some Americans are still greedy and in denial about what is going on. Because of this denial they are trying to make money in any way that they can. Some have tried in ways that because of our situation were destined to fail from the start. The Palisades mall is being hit pretty hard by the recession 27 stores have closed this month. The owners of the mall in a desperate attempt to make up for all the money they have lost decided to raise people’s rent, because most stores have already been suffering the drop in sales some just cant afford this inflated rent.
So instead of just taking the loss like some companies have been doing they tried to be greedy and now more of the stores are closing due to the increase in rent. The Dunkin Doughnuts, which has been in the mall forever and always has a long line every morning just recently closed because they couldn’t afford the three thousand extra dollars the mall was trying to charge them for rent. If a store that is obviously still making money can’t afford this inflated rent then what is going to happen to the rest of the mall? This just shows that people do not want to accept that we are in trouble and that people are still looking for ways to stay on top.
