The movie "Milk" is about the politician Harvey Milk who was the fist homosexual man to gain a position of political power. He fought for gay rights in California and decided that the only way he could actually bring about change was to become a politician. He ran four times until he finally won. Once in office he proposed many bills not only for gay rights but also for the community. He won over most of the board and the mayor, but one member was not swayed. The board however that did not agree with Milks political choices, and after this man retired from the board he wanted to revoke his decision but the mayor did not allow it. He stayed up all night, eating twinkies, and then took a gun and killed first the Mayor and then shot Harvey Milk.
This movie is very popular the moment it had left theaters and was then brought back because of all of its great reviews. Why? California recently made gay Marriage legal and then the people of California revoked the new law through a petition. Which is very similar to what happened in the movie. Maybe this movie is so popular at the moment because the assassination of Harvey Milk was a turning point for gay rights in California and now his work has almost been reversed. Another reason why this film is popular could be because Harvey Milk and Obama have much in common they are both "different" from our every day political leaders and they are both trying to evoke change. So people can relate to what went on back then and compare it to what is going on now. This movie can also be seen as an assassination fantasy because Harvey Milk was assassinated and Obama and Harvey Milk represent the same things, which are outsiders trying to change our country.
