I know, right? Two posts in one night, what is this shit? I'm actually a little embarrassed that this is going to be my first contribution to the glory that is the Merlin fandom. It was trying to be a drabble and a half, but I couldn't even do that right, so it's got no official structure, it's just very, very short.

Warnings:Ridiculously, painfully fluffy. Even if you like it you'll still probably want to brush your teeth after.
Even if he only does so within the privacy of his own mind, committing himself to Merlin is probably one of the most selfish, irresponsible things Arthur will ever do, and he spent the majority of his early adolescence finding new and different ways to be selfish and irresponsible. Arthur’s going to be king, though, and Merlin’s never going to bear him heirs or be crowned beside him or preside over the court when he’s called away in times of war or trouble.
Merlin loves him, though, in that frightening, all encompassing way that warms Arthur to his core. Merlin sees through all his faults and weaknesses to the man he could be, and loves him just for trying. Merlin would throw himself in front of the knife or drink from the poisoned goblet in Arthur’s stead every time, not out of duty, but gladly.
It baffles Arthur.
Arthur may owe his kingdom more than committing himself to Merlin, but he owes Merlin far better than to ever love another.
