I WENT TO ONE (a TAI show). IN MY TOWN. I'm still blown away about that.
The show was amazing--I even loved the openers.
zeenell was not particularly impressed by The Goodbye Processor, or the Goodnight Processor, but I was pretty charmed by them, despite my inability to remember their name. This was possibly facilitated by the fact that their singer both bore a striking resemblance to Ryan in The Office, and was shirtless by the end of the third song, despite the fact that he came out in a suit jacket, button-down and tie. They had some pretty rockin' tunes, too, though. It is possible that I will buy their cd tomorrow.
The other opener was likewise impressive, though I've forgotten their name altogether. They all thrashed around like crazy, and the two guitarists wore matching v-necks, and the one of them who wasn't singing looked oddly similar to the boy I spent most of my junior-year english class sneaking covert looks at.
Yes. It is official. I am a shallow, shallow person. Does it help if I say I totally noticed their music as well?
And then there was The Academy Is... Is it any surprise that they were fantastic? They played Bulls In Brooklyn. I was. am glad. Very, very glad.
Aside from being musically wonderful, one thing that was interesting was how much these guys talked to each other onstage. Sisky walked across to have a conversation with Mike mid-song. Mike wandered back to say something to Butcher. Also mid-song. He and Bill went back to get some water between songs at the same time, and had some kind of exchange. I guess what I'm saying here is that Carden talks to his band a lot.
We hung around to meet them afterwards, and they were so incredibly nice. I'd brought along a poetry book I picked up recently 'from the indie music scene' which has a poem by one William Beckett in it (I'll be typing that one and the ones by Gabe out into a gdoc tonight, let me know if you want to get linked to it). I asked him to sign, and he seemed a little embarassed, said it was something he'd done a while ago (which I knew, Beckett, it's copywrite '04, but I understand the embarassment a bit--everyone is a little bashful about the cryptic, emo poetry of their younger day) but he did sign it, and did the picture thing, and talked about hoe cool my town is, which was nice.
Carden was awesome, too, and totally sweet about the fact that when I'm nervous I get a little babble-ey, and when Siska signed one of the back pages of that book, he drew a Homer Simpson, and he said he liked my shirt and gave me a hug and I didn't even asks and and and--it's possible that I'm a little giddy. I love that they're all (or all three that I met) such nice guys, really, so friendly, and so cool even about the pushy fan kids that kept trying to push past me in line (just because I'm short doesn't mean I'll let you push me around, and I sure showed them!), and the ones who handed them paper with their twitter information, and the ones who expected pics and hugs as a matter of course.
I just want to send a big thank you out to
solar_cat for finding out about the show and buying the tickets and generally being awesome (she's the one who's got all the pics from this, too. I can't wait to see them). It was a great night!
ETA because apparently I'm still not done--I never reallized until tonight, but apparently, Beckett has really nice arms.
zeenell said something about how Bill is pretty but Sisky is hot, and while I'm certainly not arguing her point about Sisky (boy was looking fine tonight), Bill's pretty hot himself. I've even come around about the new hair with the vaguely fifties-greaser gel (come on, you know what I'm talking about). It's really working for him!
And seriously, I had been worried that seeing them live would dampen my desire to write fic about them, but the show only increased my compulsion to go forward withthat crossover where Beckett from Castle is William's cousin. It's perfect. I want to write her teasing him about his hair. And his emo poetry.
I'm serious about that poetry, I'm going to start typing it up just as soon as I finish babbling about how much I love TAI in person (answer: a whole awful lot), and you've got to see this shit. Beckett's is ridden with ramdon capitalization, and Gabe's, which I'll type up too, seem to hint vaguely at incest. It's a beautiful thing.
