What are zombies? Specifically, are they alive or are they somehow just animated corpses? If they are animated corpses, where does the energy needed to move around and freak out come from? Presumably food is required for their sustained existence/comfort. How much?

If zombies are actually new organisms, as The Land of the Dead makes it appear, what is their relationship to humans, exactly Are zombies reliant on human beings for the perpetuation of their species? Zombies can only reproduce when dead humans transform. Isn't the prosperity of human beings central to the survival of zombies? Isn't a total war, in which all humans are destroyed, counter-productive to zombie evolution?
·If we are dealing with a virus, especially an alien virus, then its goal would be to infect everything. Even if it means killing itself out.
If zombies are a necessary stage in the human life-cycle (when a human dies, he or she turns into a zombie), should humans develop humane ways to deal with zombies? More specifically: As the more intelligent species, is it humanity's responsibility to respect the zombies (on the basis that they are both a product of human life-cycles and may be self-aware) and try to provide for some equitable balance that permits both species to prosper? Is the idea of quarantined zones practical? Is a total war between two sides practical? Is a total war even ethical?
·Again, assuming that we are dealing with a virus we shouldn’t worry about treating the humanely. We should probably treat them with some degree of respect since they are the corpses of humans, but when something is relentlessly attacking you, that is hard to do.
·The idea of a quarantine zone is not practical. If we become zombies when we die, that would mean that everyone is already infected and the virus is just waiting to take control.
Now, if the virus is found in TEAR GAS FOR HORSES, how did the government get their hands on it? is this even really a space virus?
