Tutorial: John Barrowman icon. For Paint Shop Pro 9. Transferable - unknown. Level - medium to hard.

A while ago, I was asked for a tutorial for the below icon of John Barrowman. Because I am lazy a busy person, it took me a while to write it, but it's finally done. So, here's a tute on how to make an icon like this one.

Unfortunately, I didn't save the PSPImage, so I had to guess what I'd done, so the finished product within this tute isn't exactly identical, but the steps are the way I did them. Also, this is written for Paint Shop Pro 9. I don't know if it's translatable. I'm a strictly PSP girl, sorry!

Also, you will need some knowledge of PSP9 and it's various functions. The level of this icon is medium to difficult.

How to go from this to this.

Step 1: Crop, resize so your image is 100 pixels high. It doesn't matter if it's not square, we're going to fix that.

Step 2: Place the image you've resized onto a 100x100 pixels white base.

Step 3: With the image layer highlighted, go to Effects -> Image Effects -> Seamless Tiling -> Tiling method to center, Direction to horizontal, Settings: Horizontal offset % - 2% and Transition % - 100%. Click okay.

Step 4: Duplicate layer. Go to enhance photo, click automatic saturation enhancement, settings: bias - normal, strength - strong, skin tones present checked. Click okay. Set layer to soft light.

Duplicate once more.

Step 4: Add this texture by Jubili Textures.

(Unfortunately, I can't remember where her textures are, I think it's Deviant Art. Sorry about that.)

Set to multiply, 100%.

Step 5: With a soft edged eraser, opacity set at 75, erase the texture from John's skin.

Step 6: Merge all.

Step 7: Go to enhance photo, click automatic saturation enhancement, settings: bias - normal, strength - strong, skin tones present checked. Click okay.

Step 8: Add brushes or text and you're done!
