How to colorize one portion of a pic, while leaving the rest of it black and white.

.

Translated for PaintShopPro from a tutorial for Photoshop here.

Step 1: Find your desired image, crop and adjust it (sharpen, saturation levels etc) as if you were trying to make it into a nice crisp pic. Resize it to 100x100 if you're making an LJ icon.

Step 2: Duplicate your background (Layers>Duplicate)

Step 3: Go to the Channel Mixer (Colors>Adjust>Channel Mixer) and play with the levels until you find a nice black and white mix. You can try what I used in my screencap, but so far, every picture has been different in terms of what levels need adjusting. Once you're done, click "OK". Your pic should look something like this:

Step 4: Using your eraser tool, go over the part of your image you want to have color.

Step 5: Merge layers (Layers>Merge>Merge All) and do whatever else you wanted to the icon like adding text and stuff.
