Kelsey got a second interview at the New England Aquarium for her internship - this would be for her first choice position in the big tank. There would be little to no scuba diving, as they are rebuilding the big tank, but she'd be helping get it ready for the fish/animals, and then helping transport them back in. Including sharks. ick. =)
Tyler got an invitation to join the National Honor Society "Alpha Lambda Delta", the Becker College chapter. To qualify for an invite, you have to have a GPA of 3.5 or higher and be in the top % of your class your freshman year. He is worried about dues - I'll pay the dues. It gives him access to lots of tools, including scholarships. =)
Yesterday Ty found me on chat, and was so upset - he had his first class in Vector Imaging (the dev kids have required classes in the design track, and vice versa) and apparently there were problems. We rented his book, but that means the code in the back that gets you all the assignment downloads was used - apparently we missed that line of small print somewhere. OK - we found a way on the company website to buy a new code for $7, all set. But then it turns out he needs Adobe Illustrator CS6.

Um what? That's like a $600 program. FOR A CLASS HE HAS TO TAKE BUT THEN HIS TRACK DOES NOT USE THIS PROGRAM ANYMORE. Granted, Illustrator and Photohop are cool, and I love having access to them, but I am NOT paying $600 for this! Put up a post on the parent's page on FB, and set off an explosion (Ty is taking this earlier than most of the kids because he got to skip basic programming classes). Seriously??? So I found the free trial for Ty to use for now, but after that, he will be going to the computer lab to do his homework for this class - he has no classes Monday and Friday, so there's no damn excuse. I'm NOT buying this - one piece of software (even with the "Student Discount" the school mentioned to me on this page, it's $500) that costs more than an entire video game console, that cost more than my dog's needed dental work, that costs more than the payment on my second mortgage?

Ty is coming home today, and I'll drive him home Monday morning. Family heading over at various times this weekend to celebrate his bday. Looking forward to it. =)
