So it's not done - I had to take a personal day today to stay home YET AGAIN for the kitchen to get done. They didn't show up until noon yesterday, and it was only one guy, with the main guy "at a bigger job - that's where I was until now" (because see, my little job isn't as important). I asked if he knew all the things we are doing, like the pull out shelves in the bottom cabinets - "Um no". Didn't he tell you? "Um no". So I got to play contractor and walk him through everything, then he calls the boss and reminds him, and has to "get the rest of the stuff".
Then by 4pm the granite folks had not shown up as they said they would, so I called - and was told they would call me when they'll be out our way this week. Um. What? So the fact I'm home all day tomorrow because I HAD TO TAKE A PERSONAL DAY doesn't matter to you, I'm supposed to arrange my schedule around you so you can FIX WHAT YOU DID WRONG IN THE FIRST PLACE, when YOU DID THE MEASUREMENTS???? I slammed the phone (cordless...that takes skills) on the table after that, at which point the contractor dude asked what was wrong and I vented. He called boss man, and I'm HOPING that fixes it.
All the cabinets are now laminated with the beautiful cherry wood that is a deep honey color. He put one door on so we could see what it looks like, for when Glenn got home - it's gorgeous.
Glenn got home. Now keep in mind he's grumpy because he's basically working 4am - 9pm all week long, after only a SLIGHTLY less busy week last week - but he hated it. He hated everything. It's too dark. The edges look terrible (they told me to ignore that, they finish everything off at the end and clean it all up). It is very amateurish, he could do a better job. Then to top it off, he opened the cabinet, and closed it quick, excited to see the "soft close" hinges he requested - and it SLAMMED. And then he starts yelling about how this is all a mistake, he KNEW we shouldn't have gone with this guy, etc etc etc. And I can't find the contract because oh, you know, THE HOUSE IS A FUCKING MESS...so then he storms around saying snarky shit like "Well, we THOUGHT we requested soft close, but because we ALWAYS LOSE the important things and keep piles of shit instead...".
Now it's 9:30, and they aren't here, and did I mention I TOOK A PERSONAL DAY FOR THIS, and Glenn keeps calling me, and I'm never doing a construction project again, next time I'm just fucking buying a new house.
*sigh*
