Cooking Exam

Alright, so today I had my cooking exam for my cooking class. The setup was mystery basket format; meaning I have no clue what my ingredients will be until my starting time. Half of the students already went on tuesday of this week and they didn't do too bad at all. I had a feeling that for today the ingredients were going to be a little different, but a little more difficult at the same time.

My ingredients consisted of the following: Chicken Breasts, Shrimp, Spagetti Noodles, Mushroom, Celery, Carrot, Onion, Red Bell Pepper, Baby Green Beans, Purple Potato, Garlic, Granny Smith Apple, Orange, Red Pear, Lemon, and Texas Raisins.

My entree (menu) consisted of the following:
-Spagetti w/ Chicken, Mushroom, Garlic Tomato Sauce
-Hot Honey Grilled Chicken
-Sauteed Shrimp and Vegetables
-Mixed Fruit Cup

Everyone had 75 minutes to complete their exam. 10 minutes to prepare the menu, 60 minutes to prepare and cook, and 5 minutes to plate. Whatever protein(s) they received, it must be all used up. Vegetables, Fruit, etc. must also all be used, but not completely used.

I was pretty much doing fine in the beginning until my plating time. That was when everything just started to not come together. I basically had to keep an eye on like 2 different things that I was cooking up. I almost forgot to use my purple potato. I didn't have any time to make something out of it other than just seasoning it and serving it.

In the end, my score came out well. I thought I did bad, but I guess not. The only minor things I got marked off for were: Spagetti Noodles dried up and sticked while rested, could've made better glaze or sauce for the shrimp & veggies, and my plate not being hot (my assistant did heat them, although they cooled down fast -.-)

I'm glad I got that part overwith. Fun experience =D
