Just a roundup of what I'm watching right now. :)
Airing Live:
The Vampire Diaries
Consuming my fannish life right now, yup. I ♥ it.
The Originals
Spin-off of TVD, I also wrangle tags for it over at AO3. I'm really enjoying it, though I'm not as over the moon about the Original family as I am about Damon, Elena, and Stefan. They've kinda gone a bit heavy on the family drama, and there is still this slut-shamy attitude about Rebecca which irritates me, but it's fun, and I'm enjoying Marcel a lot.
Sleepy Hollow
I'm so charmed by this show, which I never expected. I just thought it might be something fun to watch with my husband, but it has become something I eagerly look forward to each week. I absolutely adore Abbie and Ichabod, and could watch them endlessly, especially Ichabod adjusting to modern life. I don't think there is quite enough of that, actually. I've read a bit of it in fanfic, which is a lovely way to get those slices-of-life, as fic excels at that. Speaking of, it also gives me joy that Orlando Jones is
all up in fandom. The show is cracky at times, but in a fun way. It sort of reminds me of SPN but without the emotional trauma, so it's easy viewing. Not that there isn't character depth and development, because I think they do a pretty good job of that for a cracky show. It's just not traumatic.
White Collar
I'm still very in love with Peter, Elizabeth, and Neal, and the show still makes me happy. I'm not super fannish about it right now, but I love watching it.
Elementary
I've really loved this show. I wasn't expecting to love it as much as Sherlock BBC, but it's every bit as good. I"m not super fannishly active because TVD, but it's quality TV that I never miss.
Big Bang Theory
This one is... complicated. I still really adore the characters, but the writing is slowly killing my enjoyment of the show. So many issues. I still watch it because I need something light, but... I don't know.
Almost Human
KAAAAARL! I love his little face, and I love seeing it every week. They aren't doing anything super original with the plots, but I enjoy the visual worldbuilding and I really love the buddy!cop feel. Dorian is a fascinating concept and Michael is doing a really good job portraying him, so I can't wait to see what they do with him. This one seems like a perfect fandom canon to latch onto, so we'll see if it does.
NCIS
A long-time favorite that doesn't seem to get old to me. I really wonder how it's going to be long-term without X character now. I already miss them.
Rizzoli & Isles
I still enjoy the show and characters, but it's sometimes a back-burner show for me.
Psych
Same as Rizzoli & Isles. But there will always be a place in my heart for Shassy.
Netflix Viewing:
The Good Wife
This is one of the best shows on TV, in my opinion. (I'm only on S2, though) Don't let the name put you off if you've thought about watching it - it's not a Lifetime movie every week. It has one of the best casts of female characters I've ever seen, plus interesting commentaries on relationships in the public eye, infidelity, mothers in the work force, being gay, family, racism, corruption, plus the 'issue of the week'. Plus a lot about politics and the law. They juggle a lot of different topics, and do it magnificently in my opinion.
Shows that have finished this year or are over:
Suits - On Hiatus
This season has been so dramatic!! I'm... not sure if I like it. Like, I like some drama and all, but this felt like it was a bit too much? And kind of like I'm not sure if all the drama between Jessica and Harvey was necessary. There was a lot of damage between Harvey and Jessica, Harvey and Mike, even Mike and Rachel, and I really hope they can repair all that.
Burn Notice - Over for good
My husband and I love Burn Notice. I think we've been watching since close to the beginning. It's such a fun presentation of being a spy. You have your weekly character that Michael helps, while trying to solve the overall "Who burned Michael" mystery. (Well, that mystery evolves into a few other things, but that's where you start) The gag has wore a bit thin over the years, but they always found a way to bring it back around to maintain a strong show (mostly - the end got a little over-the-top). It's got lots of action, and the editing is slick and fun. One thing that I've always loved about the show is Michael's voice-overs. He's constantly explaining the situation and how to get out of it. "When you're a spy, you have to know how to use what you have to defend yourself," and he then tells us how to make a bomb out of ferteilzer and gasoline. Or "When you're a spy, you don't have the luxury of trusting anyone else," and telling us how to interpret people's lies and behavior. I have no idea how much of it is true, but it's great fun.
The core characters and relationships are fun. Michael his hot and brooding, Sam is always good for a laugh, and Jesse is smart and cool. I really like Jesse, and was really glad they brought him on. He brought a fresh element to the mix at a time the show was lagging a bit. Plus, the ladies rock on this show. Fiona, Michael's girlfriend, is their resident explosives and weapons expert. She's always eager to shoot someone or blow something up. She's sexy, independent, and a fighter. Her relationship with Michael is complicated, and I dig the two of them together. Madeline, Michael's mother, is one tough lady, and don't you forget it. She's had a difficult past, but she doesn't let it stop her.
They worked up a lot of emotion in me by the end. I really enjoyed Fiona and Michael and Jesse in my life every week, and will miss them.
