My shitty Memorex CD MP3 player died today, so I went to return it for a replacement. Spent $10 more for one from Panasonic. It's pretty flippin' sweet. It's extremely compact, though at the cost of using AAA's instead of AA's (unless you use the wacky external battery case), and looks bitchin' to boot. As far as function goes, it doesn't have the nice ID3 tag readout of the Memorex, and the remote doesn't have pause. Just stop. If I want to pause I have to dig the player out of my pocket. Kind of eliminates the whole idea of pause, I think, which is that it should be done quickly and easily to take care of brief interruptions. But on the bright side, this player does have skip protection that doesn't totally fucking suck. In fact I just tested it with a great deal of bouncing around and there was not one skip, vs. the Memorex skipping frequently whenever I just walked.
The spiffiest thing about this thing though is the "3D" sound settings. They actually work! On the second, SUPER 3D setting it sounds like whatever you're listening to is being played live at a concert you're standing in the middle of. A little too much like that, actually, and things will often sound too...far away. So I stick with the first less super but still swordy 3D setting.
