so...
Barcelona and Chelsea are grouped together.
interesting.
fate really has it in for them. they met three times in three successive seasons... and the probability for that happening is, i imagine, not very high.
i have a big feeling Werder Bremen will go through, leaving Chelsea to mourn over their expensive, though actually impotent, superstars. it's not the Chelsea-hate talking here: Bremen really are in good form and are quite the favorites for the German title. and while they're Germany's best attacking team, Chelsea are looking quite vulnerable at the back... so... everything really points to Werder Bremen claiming the second place in the group (Barca is sure to progress first of the group).
our draw isn't so bad.
2006/07 UEFA Champions League
Group G
Arsenal FC (ENG)
FC Porto (POR)
PFC CSKA Moskva (RUS)
Hamburger SV (GER)
Porto is in shambles after Mourinho left. Hamburg performances are often fluctuating, as observed from last season, though perhaps van der Vaart and De Jong can do something special... what i'm primarily concerned of is CSKA Moscow... they're the type to spring a surprise or two. they won the UEFA Cup two seasons ago even though nobody really rooted for them (well, 'cept their fans, maybe)... and to beat Sporting in the final... Sporting who have the home advantage... well that just demonstrates the potential of the team. whether of not they can carry that sort of form in the UCL, remains to be seen.
i wholeheartedly believe that Arsenal will finish at the top of the group.
in other news, i've just finished reading Pride and Prejudice.
WOW.
people brand P&P as a chick read, maybe because of it's mushy theme but GOD the diction and the writing style are AWESOME. Austen's a genius, definitely. the sarcasm, the amazing way each chapter ends, the psychology behind it all... it is, without a doubt, a masterpiece, period.
watch the movie, then read the book.
you'll see how the movie fails to capture the true splendor of the book.
i'm saddened though, that while it is a beautiful story, i am left wondering at the last few pages of the book:
how many Elizabeths and Darcies, and Janes and Bingleys can there be in the world?
how many can be so fortunate?
it's funny how much of a double-edged sword happy endings can be:
you feel happy, but only for the characters inside the story...
and you're left even more depressed than when you first read it, by the fact that your life isn't as perky.
