OnStar

This latest bit of automotive history-in-the-making, OnStar, is a GM-partner company that provides emergency services via in-car linkup. It promises to shape the future of its industry, but shape it into what?

OnStar recently aired THIS commercial, take a minute to watch it...

This is a scene where a stolen car is remotely disabled by OnStar under the authority of law enforcement, and this video makes me cringe every time I see it. Just think what kind of power we are giving the government when they can now remotely disable a "suspect's" vehicle, it sounds like a serious forfeit of rights to me.

What if they just start installing it in every car? A mic and a transmitter and all of that conveniently installed under the cover of safety.

I usually do TRY to keep my conspiracy theories from rising too far, but come on, remote-killswitched and lo-jacked vehicles with those capabilities? Totally out of line. What about when the government eventually turns YOU into a bad guy with their new order and you want nothing more than to just get across the line to Canada or Mexico and get away from it all? But can't because your car was just remotely-disabled because you're being called in for questioning without prior notice?

I'm not saying that the system won't do incredible good for medical emergencies or that it's not cutting edge technology, but this is headed in a bad direction, mark my words.

The right to control everyone? The government should not have that right.

Chime in, tell me what you think...
