10 Resolutions For 2010

Jan 07, 2010 15:07

I meant to post this earlier - we're already a week into the year - but I had a difficult time actually being able to name 10 things that were really resolutions and that are in some way measurable. They're not in any particular order, and there is some overlap between some of them. Also, I might add more to the list later in the year as some of the easier-to-complete ones get knocked off the list.

  1. Now that my home is walking distance from a free-for-me-to-use gym and I have no excuse not to use it, I resolve to use it. My goal is not weight loss per se, but rather improved function - but since I haven't been to a gym in ages, I don't even know what my baseline comparisons are or how to measure them by myself. Therefore: I will reach and maintain a weight of 185 if not better. (Current weight: 195)

  2. I will visit a doctor. It's been years since my last genuine physical. While there, I will look into getting my leg evaluated by a specialist.

  3. I will not purchase any more videogame titles until such time as I have (a) completed a significant portion of my backlog or (b) give up and sell the games I know I'll never complete or play again. Exceptions to this rule: WiiFit Plus, and purchases I have already agreed to make. (0/24 backlog games completed - this will take a while)

  4. I will rid myself of the Dreaded Boxes Of Paper. I will sit down, sort through them, and shred, recycle, or file the contents as apporpriate. (0/7 boxes)

  5. I will (a) continue to add to my computer programming library and (b) actually read the books in said library. (Owned: 7; Expected Additions: 3; Read: 2)

  6. I will contact a lawyer and have a will written.

  7. I will update more often. It seems like enough little stuff happens that I should be able to come up with postable material more often than "every month or so." So let's say, I'll work toward an average of a post every other week, so 26 posts in 2010, not counting this one. (0/26)

  8. I will start and finish a personal project for fun. For example: NaNoWriMo; building balanced decks from my many TCG cards; writing rules cheat-sheets to my most-taught/played games; making my own costume components; doing something artistic with my camera -- you get the idea. Exact details to be determined later, because I'm lazy.

  9. As part of the initiative to rid myself of the Dreaded Papers, I will get my financial house in order: I will keep better records of my money - where I get it, and what I spend it on, so that I know how much fat I have to trim and from what areas.

  10. [redacted]

I do have a 10th resolution, but I'm keeping it private (for now). Depending on how my action on it develops, I might have stories about it later. Oh, look at me, being all deliberately mysterious and stuff....

And with that, I'll go for now. Clearly, I have plenty of things to do.

goals, adulthood, gaming, video games
