{01} train despair.

In a large city, public transport is one of the most reliable ways to get to a place quickly. There are many respectable and quick ways to travel, and most services offer deals and discounts to regular commuters ( Read more... )

You're such a silly little toy to make such hefty demands on the rest of the city just because you're too dumb to read a notice just a few days in advance, which I assume is the case here. Besides, if you're going to demand that the rest of society gives you such early warnings, it's only fair that the same rules applies for you in order to spare us the consequences of your inevitable bungling. So please, humor me and do tell. Where can you see yourself in three months from now, and what disasters and mishaps are likely to be caused by you during this period of time?

- Ah.

I...

... There's a reason I'm presently unable to answer!

I posed the question first because I know I'm not a murderer.

However, there's no guarantee that the rest of the city isn't murderous! In fact, there's generally a decent probability in this society that there are always murderers lurking at every corner.

I can't make future plans without knowing the future plans of others, because I may make arrangements that're otherwise unnecessary! For example, arranging the funeral for my suicide, which would be scheduled at a certain time. However, if another person made arrangements that said 'evade prison for killing a teacher', I would have no guarantee of my own plans because I may be murdered before I can commit suicide, and couldn't warn others appropriately!

Murderer or not, what if your plans that you can't warn us about end up interfering with our plans in some manner or form, thus making it impossible for everyone else to adequately warn you in advance? Oh-oh, looks like the stupid toy got himself stuck in a vicious cycle of pesky circle logic there!

Then, it would have to be a matter of where we might be, but with no guarantees. The most likely course of events could be charted by compiling our projected circumstances.

For example, a policeman's projected circumstances of capturing a killer, and a killer's projected circumstances of evading the police. Naturally, their odds would have to be calculated based on how well they've accomplished these things in the past, and an announcement of their chances can be made so that society can be prepared.

Of course, statistics can lie, which means that in there's always the risk that the murderer might instead get to you before the police get to him even if the chances of the police capturing him first would seem insurmountable just by looking at the numbers alone. This would render all your plans useless, thus smashing this silly early warning scheme of yours in a heartbeat.

Why don't you just play it safe and kill yourself right away, hm? A lot of toys break out there, I'm sure you wouldn't be missed. ♥

-- You're right. In an unpredictable city, a normal person can't even trust probability or something as reliable as mathematics to guarantee their existence.

The only way to move forward is to complete three month's worth of activity immediately.

What if your long term goal over the next three months is to murder me, and you're encouraging me to kill myself to save you the trouble and avoid arrest?

By killing myself, I would be aiding and abetting.

I'm not dumb, Itoshiki. I don't break my toys. But nevertheless, let's play with the thought for a bit. what if I am, what are you going to do about it, hmm...?

I'd start by going against your suggestion, and ignoring my impulses to die. The most obvious route is often the most reliable.

But in doing so, you'd be obstructing my planned arrangements to kill you, which in turn upsets the entire idea of warning everyone three months in advance about any likely circumstances in our lives. Which pretty much sends you back to square one again. Good going, jerk.
