Teeth are little things sticking out of the inside of your face. Calcified extrusions used to smash food so you can swallow it for digestion. Inside each tooth is a set of nerves that intertwine with those of crucial head parts like your brain and eyes and sinuses. Matthew had four wisdom teeth which grew in straight (an unusual occurrence, he was

-most people don't provide proper plaque control, which causes two things: cavities and gum disease (aka periodontal disease, aka periodontitis, aka gingivits = step 1 ((gingivitis is inflammation of the gums, step 2 etc would be periodontal disease = loss of alveolar bone which is the bone socket that holds the tooth in place) which are both ways to loose teeth and unfortunately, most people loose their teeth as they age. with proper homecare, you could keep your teeth your whole life. plaque control is the #1 thing you can do for your mouth
-flossing is necessary for everyone every 2 days if not everyday. there is 1-3mm of space underneath your gumline where plaque and bacteria lie and reak havoc (causing gingivitis which goes downhill to periodontitis). toothbrushes cannot reach this area really so essentially if you're not flossing, that area gets cleaned as often as you get dental cleanings. after about 2 days any plaque in your mouth (above or below the gumline) starts mineralizing to where it cannot be removed by a toothbrush or floss anymore (AKA tartar or calculus)--it has to be removed by a professional and in the meantime gives bacteria a great place to sit. i won't go into how to floss or brush properly, it's too much to type--dentalcare.com has some decent videos under the professional portion then under patient education
-i would purchase disclosing tablets (they highlight where you're missing brushing and flossing) -- Gum Butler makes some affordable ones, you can order some online, otherwise some pharmacies can order them in, i'm not sure which do or don't. i wouldn't use them forever, just get familiar with spots you're missing.
-also Listerine Antiseptic (different flavors, make sure it has the gold Antiseptic bar though) is a great plaque reducer--up to 40% if used twice a day for 30 seconds. it kills bacteria like crazy.
anyway, there's my 2 cents ; )
