Again

It's amazing to be home right now. This semester has royally kicked my ass.

This semester, I produced and co-DPd a an actual higher-end student film (my own, along with Andy, Corey, and Trevor). Because of it, I am broke, but I am happy to have gone through the experience. It reaffirmed that film is what I want to be doing.

In another aspect of film, I have devoted this semester to a photography class. I have been shooting black and white 35mm this semester and printing my own work. Next semester, I should be working with medium format, infrared film, and other good stuff. I'm really excited to dig in.

I've fallen in love, which is an amazing feeling. I've forgotten how great it is to love someone and be loved in return. Josh is a junior at the Art Institute of Boston (AIB). He paints and photographs and I respect his work greatly, which makes me feel good. This is Josh:

Unfortunately, we have both contracted mono (how cliché, the kissing disease between boyfriends). He's coming out to the city from Boston in a little over a week. I can't wait to see him and to have him here in my home. The semester has been a real roller coaster and I'm just excited to have it over with. Josh has been a huge grounding factor since he's been a part of my life.

Being back home has been great, minus the sick and fatigued part of it. I just want to be able to really see people. This whole resting thing has been hard to do. I've been running at the speed of light this semester, with a new apartment with landlord/zoning issues, working 30 hours a week, going to school full-time, producing a film, and falling in love. But how great it is to feel so productive, so alive, and for once, so optimistic.

On another note: I MIGHT be interning with a PBS documentary producer this summer. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and doing what I can to land it for sure. I'll be seeing a rough cut of work in progress in the next couple of days.

I saw a movie tonight with Kim and Emily called The Holiday. Here's my deal with standard holiday-esque Romantic Comedies. Actually, I don't think I need to say much...it's pretty obvious that they all have a lot of problems and come off being way too contrived, missing substance, giving away an all-too-happy ending, and leaving their audience either happy to have a loved one or depressed as shit that they're single. That being said, I think that The Holiday is the best Romantic Comedy I've seen, far surpassing Love Actually...not that I've actually ever enjoyed that movie much, either. Everyone has made the biggest deal over it and honestly, I found it to fit the characteristics already listed above. With that being said, see The Holiday, get through the blatant product-placements in the first half--as that is a trademark of our current cinematic era--and enjoy an otherwise great movie.

PS: Jude Law is ridiculously attractive. I think I might need to molest him.

PPS: Just got my grades...All 2 A-'s and an A..not bad, huh? Too bad I had to withdraw from a class, but still! Fuck yeah!!
