Chicago

So school ended on the first of May. I left school on the third and flew to Chicago. I'm living here over the summer with Jessica and her roommate Will. This city is really amazing. Sort of a love child of San Francisco and New York.

Somehow in the week and a half that I've been here, I've made friends, fallen in love with our four ferrets, found an amazing guy, learned my way around the city, and gotten a job at a mafia-run, militant-palestinian-managed persian restaurant. Ridiculous! It's really been a lot of fun. Of course having $30 to my name until I get some paycheck from somewhere is kinda scary, but I've learned to stop worrying about shit. I have a place to live, food to eat, and I'm happy. I don't miss Boston. At all.

Matt's in the theater school with Jess at DePaul. He's from North Dakota. I've decided that there was no reasoning behind my fear of the midwest. I mean sure, most of them are red states, but Illinios has Baraq Obama, so whatevr. Matt lives off the Belmont stop on the Brown and Red lines. Belmont/Boystown is Chicago's castro. Mostly full of crazy/trendy stores, ridiculous restaurants/bars, and late-night hookers. Also the home to Clarke's, the best 24 hour diner ever..always packed. Matt lives a few doors down. Tonight, I rode a bike over to see him, but it started raining on the way, and all I was wearing was a hoodie. When I left to come back, he gave me a sweater and jacket to wear. The sweater has an elk on the front, a full head-on shot. On the back is the elk's rear end. Total white trash. His roommates are awesome, one is a talented painter and actor, the other is a costume designer and does amazing haircuts. Matt's apartment is amazingly made up and full of art.

I hope that my apartment next year will feel that homey. It just sucks that it's not going to be as permanent as these apartments are for depaul people.

PS the El is amazing, but only because I've held jessica's Upass (unlimited rides) for the past two weeks.

Call or write guys. I'll only be in San Francisco for a couple of weeks in August, then back to Boston (Unless I decide to stay here of course).
