For the one person on the ElJays who doesn't read the Facebooks on the Internets

I am back at Adobe, Vanilla Bear. Starting Tuesday. I guess flying out to Philly or Newark at some point will be feasible.

And I repeat: as opposed to the Internets?

One is a mindless medium, the other is something on that medium. Internets:Facebook::TV:Network

Some of the content on both is cool. Some is mindless. Some people on both are evil. Some are cool. It is what you make of it. This year's flavor is Facebook, a couple years ago it was LJ, in 2015 it will be something else.

My problems with Facebook have nothing to do with the available content.

Well, that's what I mean about "people are evil". I can see the point of Facebook:2010::AOL:1995, I suppose.

Exactly. Though one of many of my issues. (I, unlike Fuckerberg, don't feel that "privacy is obsolete".)

I prefer a non-walled garden, I prefer available anonymity even if I don't use it, and I prefer my "internet experience" to not turn into something gatekeepered by a service making its money selling my personal information. (Ref: Facebook comment signins on unrelated sites.)

And I'll add: if some douchebag thinks he can monetize my inconsequential blatherings as a middle-aged geek as I use his part of the Internets for social networking, I really don't care.

It's not like I think my posting of my breakfast choice this morning is going to turn me into Samuel Pepys, regardless if it's on LJ or Facebook.
