I know it sounds cliché, but I really feel that way today.
You see, my wife of nearly 6 years and I have decided to get a divorce. Everything's rather amicable at this point, though the paperwork has not yet been filed.
So why is today special? I'm so glad you asked.
Today I got the keys to my first apartment. "But Shtick", you must be saying, "you've had apartments before. I know. I used to visit." You are somewhat correct. But this one is different. This one is all mine. For the first time in my life, I am living completely by myself. No roommates. No spouses. No evil, gimpy girlfriends (you know who you are). It's quite a liberating experience.
But I'm not totally alone, mind you. I'm surrounded by 5 of my coworkers, each in their own apartment. It's like a dorm. Not that I know, having never lived in one. But I've heard they're fun.
So I moved the first of my belongings to the new place today. My big, comfy Eames chair.
Thanks, Auntie Sal!
Getting the king-size pedestal bed into a studio apartment, however, is going to be a whole 'nother story.
