Valentine Wiggin is the second of the Wiggin brood. As such, she is somewhat stuck in the middle of a very intense family feud between her older and younger brothers. Valentine was rejected from the Battle School program because she was too passive, and it was believed that she would never willingly send soldiers to die in battle. Valentine and Ender are very close; Ender loves her more than he loves anyone. It is due in large part to that relationship that Ender decides to continue his training at Battle School. The connection between Ender and Valentine is very special and unique, and at the end of the book, they leave Earth together to colonize new worlds and eventually find a new home for the Buggers.
