So I decided on a whim to attend the
Singapore Night Festival. (or more precisely, one of the events organized by
Zouk.) My first foray into the nightlife scene here, and without anyone whom I know. (so I don't have much life, but I need my dances....)
a) First act was a little dissapointing. Singaporean band (I think), and their first piece brought out the traditional (cliche) "scantly clothed females". Their pieces also seems to be cliche as well, with too much repetition in my opinion (and not in the techno/teance manner). I might possibly be more interested if the females had snouts and tails, but that's a seperate point entirely..
b) Second act was better, though the DJ seemed to be not quite as good/prepared. (I mean, this is a planned event, the DJ shouldn't be searching for discs in my opinion) At least the music genre is techno/trance, so that didn't matter too much. A few problems though: They only had alcoholic drinks, so I had to leave the venue for hydration (not that I can't drink such, but they tend to be expensive), and due to previous rainy weather, the dance platform was too slippery for any form of footwork. Resorted to dancing on the grounds instead, which at least had better success; someone decided to videotape me for a bit, and another gave me a glowstick.
c) Well, I missed the third act because I tried to catch the last public transport home. and failed spectacularly because I had lost my watch, and hence had no sense of time. Though a taxi did get a pessenger.
Conclusion:
Partial success: Got attention, and free glowstick
Partial failure: Dance floor barely usable.
Failure: First act, and catching public transport
Needs more research, and preparedness. Still unsure of nightlife quality here. Still need to experience indoor nightlife venues. But feasible to an extent, at least.
