OFA: In the library

Nikola is getting rusty.

But he has a good enough memory that despite the fact that it's been a good twenty years since he sat down at a piano, he's doing a fairly decent job of making his way through Au Claire de la Lune.

He doesn't play well, but he plays with great expression.

Raya's listening to the piano, with a little smile as she flicks through a book. She likes music.

Nikola does relatively well with it, though there are a few fumbles here and there as he plays. He covers them as well as he can.

"How long's it been since you played that?"

She leans against the nearest shelf with the book still in her hands.

Nikola considers this as he plays. "Twenty years? Give or take a few years."

Helen stands in the doorway of the library, listening. It's been some time since he played. And she's missed it.

Nikola plays on, seeming not to notice her. He's not a brilliant musician, and likely never will be, but he does well enough.

"I still believe you should take lessons for it."

He glances up with a smile. "I'm too old to sit and have someone berate me for my rhythmic liberties."

"They say music only requires a handful of technique, the rest can be made up with passion." He stuffs his hands in his pockets, a little shy.

The hairs on the back of his neck tingle and Will wonders about the ambient electricity in the air.

"In that case, I must be doing marvelously," Nikola says, glancing up at Will before turning his attention back to the piano.

"I wasn't aware there was anything you would admit to doing less than marvelously," Will retorts, watching Nikola's long fingers over the keys.

Nikola pretends to consider this, fingers still moving across the keys. "I'm useless at badminton."

James leans on the door-jamb smiling slightly.
"You're rusty Nikola." His expression isn't rude, but teasing.

Nikola glances up at him, still playing. "I'm out of practice."

"Understandable, it has to have been what? Twenty-twenty two years since you've played?"

[ps_you_look_hot]

"Give or take a few," Nikola says with a smile. "So hard to keep track anymore."

"I guess lust is more a catalyst for emotional than an emotion itself, no matter what poetry would like me to believe."

"There, you see? You can indulge in lustful abandon without worrying about dealing with emotions."

Will almost laughs. "As we know we are both loathe to do."

Nikola does actually chuckle, softly. "They do tend to muddle things up."
