This was much easier to deal with in Atlantis, he thought. The dizziness and the fatigue would always be a hassle, but never had he felt this burning sensation so strongly. The sweat on his skin felt foreign to him - nothing he could possibly experience under the water. He wasn’t used to the need to swipe it from his brow. He wasn’t used to the sting in his eyes during a particularly strong wave of fever. He couldn’t let this condition hinder him any longer. His team needed him to lead them and keep them together, and the guilt he carried from staying behind on missions dragged him even lower to the floor.
He drowned in these thoughts, and the need for sleep overtook him. The hot cushions he awoke against seared against his skin, and all he could think of was the need for water. The need for something cool to drain this heat away.
He wasn’t on his guard when he managed to make his way to the bathroom. He lost track of exactly when his team left for their mission, and when they would be back. All he could think about was that feeling he felt when the cool water finally touched his skin, and he sighed dreamily as he sunk into it, letting the pool draw away all his misery. He closed his eyes in euphoria, only feeling the water so familiar around him, only hearing the sound of the liquid lightly splashing and -

Kaldur’s eyes shot open. A voice. He didn’t remember leaving a radio on. So where -
Under the sea~
There were two voices, now. The way they chimed together reminded him of -
Darling it’s better, down where it’s wetter~
TAKE IT FROM MEEE~
Oh. Dear. Neptune.
Two superhero sidekicks wearing brightly colored ponchos and straw sombreros burst into the private bathroom, their voices echoing off the tiled walls magnificently.
“UP ON THE SHORE THEY WORK ALL DAY, OUT IN THE SUN THEY SLAVE AWAY, WHILE WE’RE DEVOTIN’ FULL TIME TO FLOATIN’, UNDER THE SEA~”
Robin was strumming dramatically and without skill on a decorative ukulele while Wally tried to hold his black paper mustache in place and do figurative dance at the same time.
“Aw, what’s the matter, Kaldur? We thought this could cheer you up! All alone in the peaceful quiet: we thought you might have missed us.” Wally grinned at Kaldur’s gaping face and continued. “Maybe we should play another song. Robin! Special Maneuver: Number Three!”
Both whipped off their garish costumes, leaving on their normal vigilante clothes on. The ukulele clanged to the floor, making Kaldur’s head ache.
Robin took a deep breath and started.
“What would I give to live where you are? What would I pay to stay here beside you? What would I do to see you,” he sang, looking at Wally with the biggest shit-eating grin on his face, “Smiling at me…”
Wally took over, hands moving dramatically over Robin’s tinier body. “Where would we walk? Where would we run? If we could stay all day in the sun?”
Robin was chortling uncontrollably, staring into Wally’s face, hands placed on both cheeks.
“Just you and me, then I could be part of your world~”
Robin pushed Wally dramatically to the side, turning on Kaldur with an even bigger grin. Could he even call it that? It was far too big to be considered human.
“I don’t know when, I don’t know how, but I know something’s starting right now… Watch and you’ll see, someday I’ll be…” Robin stopped short, dropped to the floor, and crawled forward toward the bathtub until he couldn’t be seen, Wally following close behind him.
One muffled spout of laughter and Robin popped up on the edge of the tub, arms holding him up from the edge. “PART OF YOUR WORLD!” Wally’s hands moved up from behind him, mimicking the iconic wave.
Kaldur pulled them both into the tub.
