Teddy doesn’t know why he’s even here.
Hell, he doesn’t know why the others are here.
Okay, he knows Eli Bradley from the color guard was asked by JROTC leader to the rest of the cadets that they should explore other clubs, even if they sometimes got in the way of their own club, and that this was the only club that didn’t have someone he hadn’t already pissed off.
He’s sure Cassandra Lang came with the hopes to make friends, and for some reason he feels bad that she chose the lamest group to do it.
He figures Katie Bishop’s just using this and all the other clubs she’s in for her college résumé.
Nathaniel Richards doesn’t come by nearly enough to count.
Tommy Shepherd on the other hand is probably here because Ms. Maximoff’s been trying to get him to stay out of trouble. (Not that it’s really helping.)
So why is Teddy here? Why is here, bothering with an afterschool club (he doesn’t have a car and his mom doesn’t get off work soon enough) that he doesn’t even have skills for? Why bother with a club that’s got Greg and the rest of the basketball team avoiding him more?
Why-
Oh.
They’re almost finished with the warm-ups when he finally comes rushing in, out of breath, face flushed, grinning like a little kid when he sees Ms. Maximoff.
“Sorry,” Billy whispers, voice nearly drowned by the singing. He turns his back to her, mouths a silent Hey to Teddy that’s formed by the bright smile that gets Teddy’s stomach flipping, and takes his spot on the risers in front of him.
Listening to Billy’s trained voice, Teddy finds the right notes to sing to.
