I've had many many people ask me about how to do animations in icons. Most of my knowledge comes from the lovely mannequinskin, but I've taught myself a few things as well. This tutorial expands to AS3 as well, so you won't be able to do this without an animating program of some kind.

with photoshop and image ready you can make a base only the first time and then change just the pic below the snow layers.
