Lost among the Visitors and other unrelated topics...

"Lost" just made me worry a bit tonight. One of the problems I had with "Heroes" was how they started making everyone related to everyone else in some bizarre quasi-Charles Dickens-esque attempt to tie everyone's fate together. It may work better on The Island than it did while saving the cheerleader, but it's still troublesome. To me, it's more interesting when people become intertwined with each other in unexpected ways by an apparently invisible force (call it "Island Fate") when they're not from the same family. But the plot continues to be more coherent than in the past, it's easier to follow, and even Charlie had a decent role to play, and it's a little late to give up on the show now, right?

And V's Diana Anna continues to personify all fears both extraterrestrial and political. I'm not sure what I think about the "What Is This Thing Called Love" trope, though it did seem to go hand-in-tentacle with giant spaceship sci-fi movies of old, and I'm sure it helps to guide the plot along similar lines to the first version. I'm kind of curious if we're gong to get large-scale combat sequences at some point, or if the ultimate finale will resemble ID4. By the way, any med-techs out there who know why they picked phosphorus as an element critical to pregnancy? I looked medical uses for phosphoric acid, but they mostly mentioned anti-nausea or etching/whitening teeth. Or is this just something like why robot brains use positrons (Asimov just picked the name and let others reason out why)? And is that what was in the stuff the "loyal" Vs ingest at the end? Convenient how the effect stops at the bottom of their shoes (grin).

And combining the two, I'm wondering if we'll see a YouTube video of the V spaceship displaying the message, "NOT PENNY'S BOAT." :)

I just ran across a little demo footage from the upcoming "City of Heroes" expansion, Going Rogue: Demon summoning. It looks like another "Mastermind" type class, which I've found fun to play in the past. You have to love any power that could be called "summon cannon fodder." And if your cannon fodder scares the jinkies out of your opponents, so much the better. Though this is another superhero trope, along with the heroes who have tie-ins to mythology: Religious debate must be very interesting in Paragon City, Metropolis, and Spider-Man's New York.

And speaking of said cannon fodder (since my Masterminds usually trend towards zombies), there's a new "Resident Evil" movie coming out, and the trailer is rather obvious about it being in 3D, just from what footage is used. Given that every shot is about as subtle as a drunken student's pickup lines, I'm guessing the studio is relying on being the first horror-action film to use James Cameron's "Avatar" technology to drive ticket sales. Not that I expect anything else from the "Resident Evil" series, but... was that a giant meat tenderizer I saw? And there was a scene that was awfully darn close to another from not so long ago. Ah, well. It'll just make me enjoy "The Walking Dead" TV series that much more by comparison.

Another development in the "who gets to keep the Comic Con" playoffs: The San Diego Convention Center is planning a big expansion in a bid to keep the con in the area. It proposes more hotel space, which is a big plus (though I'm sure it'll only add a few seconds onto how long it takes for every room to get reserved when they're made available), and it puts it on equal footing with Anaheim for usable space. Now if we can also get them to guarantee a few more feet of width for the aisles along with that ski-lift from one end of the hall to the other I've been suggesting. And then there's the Wizard-World (or whatever the brand is called now) conventions that are expanding to 25 shows in 2011.

- Why is it that some food items are so ill-advised yet are brought to fruition while culinary genius goes unsung (usually)?
- Here's a leftover from April 1st that could revolutionize MMOs: Star Wars: The Old Republic (with tongue in cheek) announced the Sarlacc Enforcer character class.
- This is a fun concept in platforming games: Tiny Castle has all of its "levels" take place on one small screen.
- Prepare to trip out. the website Koehnline has a gallery (mouse over the frames with the face at the center of the screen) of some quite psychadellic tileable animated GIFs.
- This could be the setup for an epsiode of "Supernatural" or the next "Dresden Files" novel. To prove that nobody reads the fine print, 7,500 people agreed to sell their souls to a game store website.
- The good news: Element 117 has been synthesized. The bad news, it has a half life of 14 milliseconds.
- How many times must we remind pet owners to keep cats away from the monolith?
- So why shouldn't you stand next to the sun?
- We end with a "Lemmings" homage: Bad Birds. Assign tasks from the bank at the bottom of the screen to meet your quota for criminal avians to escape.
