I'm so late with Christmas this year. My folks keep asking what I want and urge me to post to my wish list on Amazon. I'm more relaxed than they. I keep telling them that they do not need to order anything yet, there's still 5-6 days to go before the last days to order for Christmas arrive. As such I've not bought anyone any presents.
On my list this year are a pair of snowshoes, I just need to decide which ones are best suited for my trip early next year.
I guess my attitude is related to the fact that it just doesn't feel like Christmas. I grew up where it snowed around Christmas and was bloody cold. Give me seasons god damn it!
This past weekend was fantastic. It's so nice to see rain again. Stephanie made a comment last night that I totally agreed with - "Never have I been so fed up of the sun in any one place." Yep, sun is nice but so are seasons and change. I love their house. They just put a futon out on the porch. The other night I say out on the folded futon with my Mac (running Windows) across my lap breathing that cool moist air, savoring it for I new come Monday there would be no more. Here it is Monday and it's sunny again! SBSB, indeed.
I went out surfing in the storm swell yesterday. It's looks like that puppy is extending into next week. And in doing so, got battered! The waves are some of the biggest I've seen on the SB shores. The current was extremely strong and the short walking proved to be somewhat of a challenge. There was no paddling around the waves because the lines extended all the way along the beach, it was a all or nothing deal. I lasted about an hour and 20 minutes before my shoulders burned enough to call it a day.
An hour and 20 minutes is not enough activity for the weekend, even if it was grueling. The rain was still coming down so after a shower, lunch and short stop off to SB Outfitters I went solo hiking. I left around 3:45pm so that gave me about and hour and a half before it got too dark so I thought about heading up Tunnel Trail, yet I fancied a different route so headed to La Cumbre Peak. I wasn't going to make the peak in the time I had so I was going to go as far as possible. Just as I left my car another group pulled up behind. Two guys an a lady, probably all in their 50s. She admired my car and asked questions about it and I fed her all the information I had researched. When I uttered the 32-38mpg one of the guys was amazed. I think I sold her so Toyota/Scion you owe me!
I hiked with them for a while and got talking to one of the guys about international politics, climate change and other bullshit about a utopia and an alteristic socity, which we will never see in our lifetime. We parted ways some 40 minutes in as they wanted to head back before it got dark. I continued up the mountain and stopped numerous times to watch in awe the clouds lifting and circling around me.
The hike also gave me chance to try out my Camel hydration pack for my ORage jacket. It's neat but you have to blow the water back into the reservoir or the water that lay in the drinking hose, resting against my shoulders, or it warms. It provides you with a mouth full of tepid liquid. I came back with extremely mud/clay caked trail running shoes and mud splattered pants. It was awesome!
I've recently been on a kick to start mountaineering and bouldering/rock climbing. It's a shame Grant is out of action I would like to go with someone I know. I guess I'll have to go out there and find someone/some people myself.
