So I read all the comments everyone's made about Kerry's speech and had to see for myself. After reading some articles, especially these two:

That would be pretty stupid, even for Kerry, to call all our military stupid a week before an election that has the Dems poised to take over Congress if all goes well. Whether the comment was still appropriate or not I dunno, but I do think the Republican's saw an oppertunity and jumped on it hoping it sways some votes. (The Democrats may have done the same thing if they had the oppertunity, its politics come on, so I'm not saying it in a "we would never do that" type light). I mean Bush says some pretty stupid shit but everyone's just used to it so he doesn't really get jumped on. Remember the whole
"Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we."
Can I get an apology for that? Kwim?
Regardless of what Kerry did or didn't do during his service, he's still a veteran and if he was going to call the military stupid he'd be calling himself that as well. Because he was in during the time when it really was the assumption that if you were too dumb to do anything else you'd go in the military. And that was the assumption because many times that was the case - officers excluded of course - but for many enlisted. My dad's not ashamed to say he always knew he'd join the military because there was nothing else for him. He made the most of it and moved up and stayed in for 20+ years and he's probably one of the smartest people I know, but does he have a college degree nope. Even a high school diploma nope. Kwim? At one time that was the perception. I don't think its so much so now but Kerry was in during that time so I really doubt he'd call himself and the people he served with stupid. Especially right before elections. It'd just be dumb.
But, as always, the media has decided he's being insulting and that's the angle they're going with so I'm sure its what the general population will believe.
Now I do have to say if it hurts his chances for nomination for 2008 I won't be sad. There are better candidates out there for the Dems than freaking Kerry. Like maybe a senator from Illinois..... :-)
