This week's cross-cultural studies project

Yours truly is the one whose job it is to notify members of our high school class when one of them has had something happen--good or bad. My friend Audrey's father passed away, and I was fortunate enough to have the day off so I could go to the funeral. Audrey and her family are Syrian Orthodox, so I was exposed to a completely different way of doing a church service...including getting a prep from Audrey's husband on how to correctly make the sign of the cross! (I somehow managed to have learned it backwards--not that I ever needed to use it at any time in my life!) Audrey and her sister both gave moving tributes of how much their father meant to them, and I was glad I could be there for Audrey and her cousin Jennifer, both of whom were my classmates.
