I could not for the life of me think of anything positive to say to Charles at a moment like this.
Gunn was certainly attracted to Jada and having spent time with her, battling the remaining demons tonight, it was certain that he had grown attached to her in some measure.
It was understandable. Jada was a beautiful woman and being a vampire slayer was certainly something that Charles found appealing and enthralling, being that he was a warrior.
For me, it was starting to become a problem. So many slayers had already died tonight and including Jada, unless I was unaware of other slayers in other locations, not here in Los Angeles, there were only four left. The four were Jada, Melissa and of course Buffy and Faith, and now, Jada's mysterious disappearance was becoming something to be appalled and worse by.
My own attraction to Illyria, realized this evening and fulfilled in every way, was put on the side, and I hoped that she understood. We were searching for an Italian gentleman, and that was our only lead, as Gunn couldn't remember anything else about her.
Research would be of little use, giving that many, literally dozens, if not hundreds of Italians appeared in countless volumes that I had taken away from Wolfram and Hart before we left to fight the Circle of the Black Thorn, and now, we found ourselves surveying the area where they had met this Italian gentleman, and where the vampires had attacked and where Jada had disappeared from.
We searched all of the high-rises and buildings in the area, but I felt it was fruitless. There wasn't a strong likelihood that she was in the area and it still remained a mystery if she was in danger, or if she was simply in the throws of passion.
"Gunn, I know that this isn't what you want to hear, and I realize by your worry that you were attracted to Jada, but we musn't dismiss the possibility that she is merely somewhere with this Italian in the throws of passion. Is there anything else that you can remember about him, anything at all, which could potentially shed some light on this man to my learned mind?"
I hoped for something, otherwise, we were doubtlessly searching in vain.
