so it still hasn't hit me that there is a week and a half of school left, that the semester is quickly crashing to a close, that college is essentially halfway over. it's a little bit alarming, a little bit exhilirating.
the past few weeks have been interesting, with duke's image floundering, scandals unfolding and then folding (much to the da's dismay), and my friends all over time and cnn. i dont really know what to make of all this, just that i don't understand why constant coverage by every national media outlet is so necessary, especially now that they seem to be exonerated. sorry-anticlimax. the rich white boys won't get thrown in jail, duke will not be permanently stained. some kind of long-awaited cultural justice, it seems, will not be served. and after a few months, after the lacrosse-culture situation is looked into and a new coach is hired, no one will really remember this. there will just be jokes made about lacrosse players and parties and e-mails, but this isn't going to be some great turning point. after a while, everything will go back to how it was, duke-wise, lacrosse-wise, durham-wise. kind of like crash.
on a different note, last night my friends and i made something like five gallons of sangria and carried it barefoot to the gardens in a giant blue bucket that looked like it belonged in a sandbox. then we drank all of it and played croquet in the middle of the night. and after a half-hearted game of never have i ever that waned in part because there was nothing left to drink, we jumped in the pond with all our clothes on, wary of fish and seaweed.
