Stunning news today- Wal-Mart is seriously considering making
E85 fuel available at its gas stations. From a boutique fuel for a few Midwesterners, E85 would suddenly be available, well, everywhere.
This follows a few other recent developments- notably, Wal-Mart's decision to create
protected habitat equaling every acre they develop and its decision to command the economy to produce more
organic food.
Wal-Mart's raising its wages. Wal-Mart's redesigning stores to match their communities. Wal-Mart's leadership has set this goal for the world's 2nd largest corporation- zero fossil fuels, zero emissions, zero waste. And they have specific plans to reduce all of these 20% within the decade.
What the hell? When did Al Gore take over Wal-Mart?
There's more to the story, obviously. Wal-Mart is still kneecapping union organizers and heavily dependent on undocumented labor. The obvious conclusion is this: Wal-Mart's environmentalism is not greenwashing. Nor is it a liberal takeover. They want a sustainable world. And they want Wal-Mart to own it. Forever. On Wal-Mart's terms.
