Meme - Book reading

Jul 06, 2012 11:19

The moment I've seen this meme in my inbox I decided I had to do it myself because I feel you can learn much about a person by discovering about their reading habits.
Snagged from verizonhorizon

1. Favorite childhood book?
The first I can remember it's from when I was 11. Teresa Buongiorno's Olympos, Greek mythology for young readers, all seen by the young eyes of Hebe, the cupbearer of the gods.
2. What are you reading right now?
The Dictator trilogy by Andrea Frediani. At the moment I'm at the beginning, with Caesar still in Gallia.
3. What books do you have on request at the library?
None at the moment.
4. Bad book habit?
Buy so much books that then linger in my room unread. Or buy books I've already picked at the library and I liked.
5. What do you currently have checked out at the library?
None. It's been months since the last time I'd been in a library.
6. Do you have an e-reader?
No and I don't plan to have one in the near future: I love the feeling, smell and weight of paper.
7. Do you prefer to read one book at a time, or several at once?
Absolutely one or I can't enjoy it.
8. Have your reading habits changed since starting a blog?
No. But since I've been hooked by Kirk/Spock (and, especially, after starting writing fanfic with friends via chat) I find it hard to pick up a book.
9. Least favourite book you read this year (so far)?
None. I don't pick books that could fall into a "least favorite" category.
10. Favorite book you've read this year?
Erhm... let's say of the 2011, wanna? Colleen McCullough's series about Caesar and Rome.
11. How often do you read out of your comfort zone?
Never. Though once I picked a book that I shouldn't have liked... and become enamoured of it.
12. What is your reading comfort zone?
Books that don't focus entirely on romance and horror; generally, everything that isn't set nowadays with too much realism.
13. Can you read on the bus?
Absolutely not, I get sick even by watching out of the windows.
14. Favorite place to read?
On the balcony or, even better, out in the garden.
15. What is your policy on book lending?
I'm picky about this, I'm jealous of my books and having being returned some damaged don't help. I wouldn't stand if one returned to me with too much signs of use.
16. Do you ever dog-ear books?
No, I get pissed if I make one by mistake!
17. Do you ever write in the margins of your books?
No, I couldn't, for the reason above!
18. Not even with text books?
That's another story: back in the years when I still went to school, so when Euro currenvy still had to come, I used to draw on my text books. XD
19. What is your favourite language to read in?
Italian. I've tried a couple of books in English but it's easier in my language. Plus, this way I can learn new, "high" words. :D
20. What makes you love a book?
There isn't something specific, it varies from book to book. Usually it must be a plot that takes me, characters that are believable, sometimes heroes but human at the same time. If I'm eager to flip through pages than the book had won me.
21. What will inspire you to recommend a book?
Since my friends share tastes with me, I just need to like the book to suggest it.
22. Favorite genre?
Historical/fantastic set in ancient Rome.
23. Genre you rarely read (but wish you did)?
None.
24. Favourite biography?
I don't usually read biographies. Alexander the Great and Gaius Julius Caesar not included (both those are romanticized).
25. Have you ever read a self-help book?
No, never. Not my taste, even if I could need them.
26. Favourite cookbook?
None. The volume about Italian cousine region by region is enough.
27. Most inspirational book you've read this year (fiction or non-fiction)?
Next question.
28. Favorite reading snack?
I have no favorite snack, I can go from having meal to nothing.
29. Name a case in which hype ruined your reading experience.
None, I tend to stay away from those books. I stopped reading HP when they become on the n°1-to-read of all the world.
30. How often do you agree with critics about a book?
I don't give a damn thing about critics, never read them: they tend to never agree with me, anyway.
31. How do you feel about giving bad/negative reviews?
I don't review, I'm not this book-eater to feel adequate to review.
32. If you could read in a foreign language, which language would you chose?
English would be fine, so I could read titles never released in my country or that are out of stock.
33. Most intimidating book you've ever read?
I suppose the De Bello Gallico in Latin with translation attached. Or Divina Commedia, but that's when I still was at school so it doesn't count.
34. Most intimidating book you're too nervous to begin?
Lord of the Rings. I see this tome and I run away every time I'm about to start.
35. Favorite Poet?
None.
36. How many books do you usually have checked out of the library at any given time?
Usually one at a time.
37. How often have you returned books to the library unread?
None, I pick once at a time so I know I can read it before the time expires.
38. Favorite fictional character?
Hmmm, that's tough. At the moment I'd say Dirk Pitt from Cussler's books.
39. Favourite fictional villain?
I cannot think of one at the moment, basically because I don't read many books with villains that are worth to be remembered.
40. Books I'm most likely to bring on vacation?
Which one tickles me.
41. The longest I've gone without reading.
... ehrm... A year and more.
42. Name a book that you could/would not finish.
None that doesn't come in my mind: when I pick one is because it draws me enough to be read entirely, it doesn't happen that I don't like it.
43. What distracts you easily when you're reading?
Finding quotes/scenes I like so much that I need to stop for telling to my friend via sms.
44. Favorite film adaptation of a novel?
I haven't read many books that had been brought to the big (or little) screen. I can name only Sahara from Clive Cussler, The last legion of Valerio Manfredi and Harry Potter. And Colette's Cheri, which I still have to see. I don't count Shakespeare.
45. Most disappointing film adaptation?
See above.
46. The most money I've ever spent in the bookstore at one time?
Speaking of reading books, The Lord of The Rings edition hardcover and illustrated, that was expensive! Non-reading, books about art or similar that usually start from 60/70€.
47. How often do you skim a book before reading it?
Never!
48. What would cause you to stop reading a book half-way through?
Well, if it doesn't "take" me. If it's boring. Luckily for me it's never happened.
49. Do you like to keep your books organized?
I'd love to keep them organized by author, but my shelf doesn't allow it. I want my book room!
50. Do you prefer to keep books or give them away once you've read them?
Keep! I buy even the ones I read at the library!
51. Are there any books you've been avoiding?
Twilight? Avoided like the plague.
52. Name a book that made you angry.
Hmmm, I suppose Harry Potter 7 will get me angry. When I'll decide to read it.
53. A book you didn't expect to like but did?
Colette's Cheri and its sequel.
54. A book that you expected to like but didn't?
None that comes in my mind.
55. Favorite guilt-free, pleasure reading?
Comics and manga count? They don't, really?
