Brief announcement, just to make it official: I'm besotted with the new Sherlock. The modern setting is fun, the texts are telegraphs, I loved shout-outs to canon like the drunkard's phone recharger leaving scratches (as per the wind-up watch scratches in canon), and the cast is just... Benedict Cumberbatch being all spooky! Martin Freeman being adorable and haunted! Rupert Graves being the stolid policeman! *hearts in my eyes* (Also enjoyed the murderer.)
Plus:
- the cafe owner who's convinced Watson is Sherlock's date, and the whole "Are you..?" "I'm flattered but no thanks" "That's not what I meant" conversation
- the CHASE scene ON FOOT
- the fact that Watson finds Sherlock fun as well as peculiar, while everyone else just finds him weird
- the music
- lines like"I think I left my riding crop in the mortuary" and the use of the term "house-breaking" in an ostensibly modern crime drama
The only problem was that I guessed whodunnit (or rather, the genre of person) well before Sherlock cracked it. OTOH, I found the show-down compelling, and on a re-watch I noticed a lot more little clues planted around early on. Likewise enjoyed the revelation of the Mysterious Arch-Enemy.
I've only watched "Study in Pink." The other episodes are still to go. *squeaky noises of glee*
