Hot topic of contention lately....what defines a date?

If you don't know if it is a date or not, is it a date?
If someone pays, is it a date?
If someone doesn't think it is a date, it isn't a date?
If someone thinks it is a date, it is a date?

I think it's probably a date if both parties involved are of the same opinion that it's a date.
