Sometimes, a free press isn't a good thing
Days off were few and far between for the two Rangers lately. Attacks against the planet had been getting worse, resources were beginning to disappear and the two young men were being called on more and more to defend their homes and their people. It was just plain exhausting.
So it was with much pleasure that Zhane had persuaded Andros to come out with him for dinner one evening, to relax, let some of the pressures ease and be a normal person for once, not the Red Ranger. Surprisingly Andros had agreed to his plan and they had both put some effort into the occasion.
Zhane was dressed in black slacks and boots, with a soft silver short sleeved shirt that hugged his muscular but slim body. His white hair was almost glowing and his blue eyes sparkled with life and joy.
Andros had also worn black slacks and boots, but in a departure from his normal mode of dress he had worn a black shirt with silver highlights in it and one streak of red down one side. It showed off his dark hair and eyes perfectly and Zhane's smile was like the sun coming up when he saw him.
"You scrub up pretty well Andros." Andros blushed slightly, grinning.
"As do you. Now, where are you taking me?" Zhane took Andros's hand in his as they walked out of their house and towards the hovercar.
"Crinna's." Andros gave a low whistle, they weren't cheap, in fact they were the most expensive and exclusive restaurant on the planet.
"How did you manage to get a reservation there?" Zhane grinned as they strapped in.
"Ah, trade secret. If you ask me nicely later I'll tell you." That caused Andros to laugh at Zhane's over the top sexy voice and wink he had thrown him. Zhane was irrepresable sometimes.

The meal was excellent, the best they had both had in a very long time. When the two had arrived there had been a small stir of commotion to see the two Rangers out of uniform and out with each other, clearly on a date, clearly together. But the two young men didn't care, this night was for them and them alone.
They were seated away from the public dining area, which they were grateful for and proceeded to have the best night they had ever had together. For once they just acted like two young men deeply in love with each other, forgetting about their responsibilites and worries for just one moment in time.
Just as the dessert of a watermelon sorbet arrived, so did the press. Someone must have tipped them off that the two Rangers, previously thought to not have partners, were together on a date. And like a pack of vultures that they can be, the press leapt at the chance.
Flashes went off as two photographers burst into the private dining area, snapping away furiously, both trying to get the one photo of the Rangers that would earn them the most credits.
Andros and Zhane both got disgusted looks on their faces and the manager tried to shoo the photographers away, but with no luck. Suddenly, the two photographers found themselves covered in watermelon sorbet and staring at two very angry Rangers.
Andros opened his mouth to say something but Zhane just shook his head, grabbing his arm and leading towards the back door.
"Send us the bill. We'll be going now." The manager didn't object. No one did when Zhane used that tone of voice.
They had reached the minimal safety of the hallway leading towards the backdoor when one of the photographers had caught up with them.
"Rangers, just a few words, please. How long have you been together? Do your family's know? Do they approve? Do you think that your relationsip impacts on your Ranger duties? Do you..." He got no further as he was telekinetically pushed out of the hallway and the door slammed in his face.
Almost as an afterthought though Zhane held out his hand and the guys camera came floating to him. He took out the film and then dropped the camera on the hallway floor.
"Come on Andros. Let's get home. At least there we can have some privacy." Andros nodded and they headed home, there lovely evening practically ruined. Yet a few hours later, after some rather intense love making, Zhane remembered the film and processed the images.
He smiled as he saw the most beautiful and perfect photograph of him and Andros together, seated at the table, feeding each other food. He would treasure that forever.
Perhaps a free press wasn't too bad after all....

Okay, lunch time.
