Close Call
The building was huge and it was ablaze totally. The emergency crews were doing there best but they were stretched thin as it was with fires all throughout the city and numerous rescue operations to be undertaken.
But this situation was by far the most dangerous. The building that was concerning the crews most was a research facility full of dangerous and volite compounds, including explosives, and if they didn't it under control soon, it would blow and take over half the city with it.
Therefore the call had gone out to send for the Rangers, they were the only ones that stood a chance of getting in and activing to fire suppression systems that would save the building and therefore a whole lot of lives.

Andros and Zhane arrived on their gliders, already tired and exhausted from defending the capital from Dark Spectre's attacks but they knew that if they didn't act fast, they'd be in a whole heap of trouble.
Andros went and talked to the fire chief while Zhane examined the building, his helmet hanging casually in his hand, a frown on his normally friendly face. He didn't even glance over at Andros as he felt him stand by his side.
"She's going to go in about ten minutes unless I miss my guess."
"That's what the fire chief said as well. We have to get into the basement and the top floor at the same time and activate the fire suppression system. There's two main controls but they can't be accessed remotely." Zhane snorted softly.
"Stupid designers, we told them not to do that, but no, we're just Rangers, we don't know squat."
"Zhane." Andros's tone was of slight censure but it didn't phase Zhane at all, nothing did really.
"Alright, you want top or bottom?" Now it's was Andros's turn to laugh as Zhane projected a certain sexual position image into his mind. Zhane always did have the worst timing that way.
"I'll take the top thank you very much." Zhane now turned and grinned at him as he lifted his helmet up.
"Leaves the bottom for me, just the way I like it." Zhane gave him a saucy wink and put his helmet on. Shaking his head, Andros did the same and in unison they moved towards the building.

Andros POV
As I brought my glider up to the top of the building I could feel the heat of the fire raging below me. The control room I needed to get to was just on the floor below the roof, hopefully it was still intact and still had power to it. I just had to get there.
I left my glider on the roof, running to the door and crashing into it to open it, just as well as the dam thing was stuck. I raced down the stairs so fast I don't think I even realised I had gone down them. As I burst into the control room I was blasted by a wave of heat and staggered backwards. Looking around I could see the fire was so close, it was literally only about twenty metres away.
I quickly began activating the controls, and finally some luck ran my way as there was still enough power to turn it on from this end. After a frantic moment I had it up and running and was heading on my way out, that fire was coming to close, even for me.
"Zhane, how are you doing?"
"Not so good."
~*~
Zhane POV
I headed into the building through a lower back entrance that the fire crew had cleared for me. Straight away the heat was so intense, and the flames were literally licking at my feet as I raced through, suddenly feeling very grateful for the heads up display my helmet provided for me.
I reached the control room to find it already in flames. Muttering soft curses to myself, ones that'd turn Andros's hair white as mine if he'd heard them, I raced to the panel.
To my dismay it was barely working, if I was lucky I'd be able to get maybe half a dozen of the needed suppresent systems working. But I set to work, trying to ignore the heat and the feel of the flames nearing my back.
"Zhane, how are you doing?" Before I could stop myself I answered. One of my main aims in life is not to worry Andros any, but then again, my mouth always did kick into gear before my brain did.
"Not so good."
~*~
Andros raced onto the roof and jumped onto his glider.
"Why, what's going on? I've got the suppresent system activated on this end." Soft curses could be heard coming from Zhane and Andros grinned under his helmet, Zhane could be very inventive sometimes.
"Well, if I'm lucky, and we both know that I'm not that lucky, I'll get about half the ones down here done. So, want to start thinking of a plan B?"
"Great. Just great. Okay, let me think a minute." The smoke was getting thicker from the lower levels of the building, but the suppresent systems had kicked in on the upper levels and the fire was beginning to die down. Andros directed his glider towards the ground.
"Take your time, no hurry, not like I'm going anywhere." The tone was slightly resigned from Zhane and it triggered Andros's alarm bells.
"Zhane, what aren't you telling me?"
"Nothing, just the suppressent system needs a bit of babysitting, that's all. How's that plan coming along?" Andros leapt lightly onto the ground and stared at the building, his mind frantically working.
"Okay, got it. I'll bring in a foam bomb, that'll help with the suppresent. Okay, I want you out of there and safe like right now." Andros turned to the fire chief who had overheard his words and had already begun assembling the last resort fire fighting tool.
"Um, afraid I can't do that 'Dros." Fear settled into Andros' stomach like never before.
"Why not?"
"Roof collapsed, blocking the exit. You can't get to me in time. So, set off the bomb and then come and dig me out."
"No, I want you safe first." Suddenly Andros felt Zhane's thoughts filter into his mind.
Andros, do it. We can't be safe all the time. I'll be fine, there's cover here and I'm morphed. You know you have no choice.
Andros sighed and lowered his head, replying after a moment to Zhane.
You make too many sacrifices for me you know that don't you?
The image of Zhane giving Andros a fancy bow appeared in his mind.
Anything for you Dros, anything. Now, get it done, get me out of here and then get me home so I can cuddle up to you and forget about today.
Andros didn't answer that, he knew what he had to do. He took the largish device fromt he fire chief and headed to his glider. He rode it about one third of the way up the building, where the heaviest concentration of the fire was, and jumping through a window into the middle of it, he set the bomb down and set it to go off in five seconds. With that, he jumped back out just in time.
~*~
When the dust had settled, the smaller fires had been extinguised and the building declared safe to enter, Andros had literally flown inside but he need not have worried as emerging from a very blackened and mostly destroyed room came Zhane. His suit was burnt and damaged in places, but intact. He gave Andros a tiny smile as he removed his helmet, coughing slightly.
"Okay, next time, you take the basement." For some strange reason this set Andros off and he burst into laughter, moments later joined by Zhane. Slinging his arm around his best friend and lover he led him outside, still laughing at how inane and silly Zhane made such a dangerous situation sound.
End
Okay, maybe I'm biting off more than I can chew, but we'll see.
