and it's been nine days...

already? Man! Where'd the time go?

Been to Physio for my core muscles. While I am a nurse and I theoretically know most the muscles of a human body, there is some difference between theory and practical. My first appointment was an assessment, of course. And from that she deduced that I required some work on the foundational stabilizing muscles. (BTW, she has the most darling English accent that almost distracts me from what she's saying. She reminds me of Jane in Tarzan or Kitty in The Jungle Book, live action 1994.) She started from the abdominals...very most interior of the lot that apparently are suppose to contract at the very thought of moving. Imagine that? Then the next appointment (last friday) she said we would add a few exercises then work on my neck. So we proceeded to work that out and eventually she had me roll to one side and placed her finger on a spot on my lower spine and said, "Contract this muscle, please" I responded, "Which muscle?"
"This one here."
"That's skin and bones"
"No, there's a muscle there."
"Really?"
"Really. Contract, please."
"...um...how?"
"I see..."

Not too surprisingly enough, we didn't get to work on my neck. This is apparently a muscle that is also suppose to contract when the very thought enters your brain to actually move about. I can just imagine the thoughts of my strength and movement muscles as this muscle is now brought into play. "About f***ing time ya lazy piece of ...!" Those poor core muscles have been doing double duty of not only moving me about and pulling and pushing as they're suppose to be but also keeping me upright and able to stand, sit or do anything at all! No wonder they were tearing and straining!

I had quite the giggle on my way home from that appointment. Imagine that! There's a muscle there that I really didn't know I had! Nor the rest of my body from what I can tell. Thing's been lying dormant for who knows how long! There really *is* a muscle there!
