I can understand all of what you're feeling. So I can actually sympathize (not just empathize).
I know we're close to AC, and so we're losing a few people to that. I don't begrudge anyone for having to choose AC over WTF. We're a first year con, AC is very established, and rather more expensive. Especially for those of us north of the border.
As for my feelings about AF, I would have put more time into helping that event, but at the time it just wasn't possible for me. I know how much you put into AF, it's a lot. I remember similar feelings at the last C-ACE, and seeing AF take the reigns for the region.
But I do want to say that you have been supportive of WTF. Even if you can't attend. Even if you don't have the time/funds/availability/whatever to send us, you've provided us with moral support (and bits of equipment, which will be returned to you, trust me :) ). You've listened to us, and we've listened to you. I think it's a good deal.
I can't say that I'm happy you'll not be here in a month. But if I lay my bets right, there'll be more WTFs in the future, and I hope that we can entertain you in the future. And feel no fear of helping out down the road. All we would ever ask if for you to smile.
I know I seem rambly, but it's not so easy to express what I feel about this. Perhaps I'll write a follow up in an email. In the mean time: Thank you. Really.
I wish that the closeness to AC was not as big of a factor as it has been. I am having to save up a lot more then usual this year, as I am not even sure that the truck will make it the entire way, so I may be forced into buying a new vehicle. That is what is really cramping my budget at the moment.
You can be assured that I will find a way out to WTF next year no matter what, even if I have to sell a kidney or something.
