Nostalgia
Man.. sometimes your personal history comes crashing in on you at completely random times.
Just now I was called on to change some logins on a computer that I rarely work on. It is a computer that is used for analysis and it is also hooked to a microscope as well. I went down onto the computer and logged in as myself to change their info when I got a huge pang of nostalgia.
Before I came to the university in 2003, I worked at a software company that created a piece of data mining and KDD software. It was pretty amazing stuff, but it was even more amazing to work there. The atmosphere was amazing to work at, there were dogs roaming the halls ready to play at a moments notice, big comfy couches and chairs to relax in, unlimited soda/pop coffee or tea.. Just a really chill place to work. When the venture capitalists got cold feet they pulled the plug and we were all left out in the cold..
All these thoughts and emotions flowed back to me as I looked on the desktop and saw the logo of the software suites that we created sitting there, just waiting to be ran.
Sometimes you have to wonder just how different things could have been..
