I know I said I'd have that Kekkaishi post up soon. This is not it. This is a ramble on One Piece instead.
So. Mostly within the past week, I devoured the One Piece manga. I finished catching up on...Friday, I think? And had a lot to say about it, but I thought I'd give it a few days before making an entry to allow myself to calm down and be more

I actually am going to start watching the anime now (or, really, I've already started), because I loved the manga so much and I want more and seeing it in another medium is as close to that as I can get right now. Also I'm just really excited to see all the characters animated and hear the seiyuu and such. I've watched the first twelve episodes so far, actually. I'm not finding it a drag, really, because for now it's exciting to know what is going to happen, but to see it played out in animation...and picking out the little differences and changes they made...it's keeping me occupied. Of course, some times I think about the really EPIC stuff that comes later and I want to see it NOW, but the anticipation is part of the fun, I guess.
I love how you can just feel the series getting bigger and bigger and bigger.
Yes. This. I really started to feel this back in Alabasta when Robin reading the ruins and Crocodile was talking about the Pluton. I mean, I totally expected to get more on that later, but it was just like...Wow, this thing is huge, the way it arches over the entire storyline and the WORLD. I think one of the details in the storytelling of OP that got me most was...back in Skypeia, when Usopp saw "someone" fixing the ship, and they made the comment that whoever had done it knew how the Going Merry looked before her makeover to ride the Knock Up current. I expected to see that resolved by the end of the Skypeia arc, and then it just...wasn't. I read a bit further and still there was no answer to that. I was beginning to think I had somehow missed the explanation (I read carefully, but I was also reading very fast through the series at that point, so it didn't seem impossible I could've missed something), or else that it was just a dangling plotline that had been forgotten in the face of the other events. Honestly, I came very close to actually making an LJ entry asking if I missed the explanation or what. And then, of course, way into Water 7, there it was. And my respect for Oda as a storytelling jumped through the roof. ♥

Oh god. YESSS. There are so many little things that keep cropping up that you think don't really mean anything and then SUDDENLY THEY DO. Oda is AMAZING like that, it's one of the things that boggles me every time. He's such a good storyteller and pays so much attention to detail. The Going Merry being fixed, like you said, the paper Ace gave Luffy, LABOON'S ENTIRE STORY KLJASDAS. Did you know that Raleigh first showed up in Buggy's flashback like A MILLION CHAPTERS AGO?? And now I'm beginning to wonder about this disease Gold Roger had, because it's like the third time someone in the series has died from something like that. Which could mean nothing, BUT WITH ODA YOU NEVER KNOW! God, he just blows my mind. *______*
