For all that Buffy itself was influenced by things like Xena, etc, it kind of is the first mainstream female mythic journey of its type. Like, in mythology, we have female heroines who, like the heroes, become gods in death, but their claim to fame usually comes from having been a symbol for some great war or having been sacrificed in the name of another. I liked that Buffy got to have the traditional heroic journey complete with all the usual obstacles they face. <3 We need our heroines with a thousand faces. :)

The only reason I've ever been compelled to watch the old BSG has been in this context. To compare it to the new mythology and see how the themes change with time. But ultimately, I don't think I can maintain any interest in it given that Kara is a huge part of my BSG love (and the reason I stuck with it past the point it stopped being actually good) and I'm not really interested in a version without her.

I'm kind of amazed you managed to remain so positive about BSG up till the very end because I was bitter before 4.5 even started. Although, if it helps, being prepared for the suck did not at all help me be less bitter. ;)
