I know this has NOTHING to do with what you're posting about here, and I'm sorry for that, but I still wanted to say that when Marvel confirmed at Wizard World Chicago that the team lineup of Astonishing X-Men is not going to be changing between now and the coming of the new writers, I breathed a huge sigh of relief and I hope you did the same.

It did that? I had no idea. You're awesome for telling me that because I was really, really worried for Emma and mostly avoiding Marvel. Now I can be excited about Warren Ellis taking over without worrying about Emma or Kitty (who should hopefully be interesting again once Ellis takes over) dying before their time.

Now I can happily skip over the rest of Joss' run. So, about a year of ignoring Astonishing X-men, then. ;)

When the X-Men panel was talking about the upcoming Ellis run, someone asked if the team would be changing from what we know now and Quesada responded "The cast of characters will remain the same." It seems like a pretty solid confirmation that Emma will be making it, although I'm still a LITTLE worried that there's some kind of loophole in that answer...

It's kind of hard not to be worried with Joss involved, and not in a good way like his fans like to think. He did admit to killing Anya purely for the sake of having someone die in the finale. Which? Beyond lame. So, yeah, still worried. He is fond of lying and getting people to spread his lies, so it's possible that things will change. I'll be happy as long as Emma is there and not changed in any drastic or permanent way. Although, I was kind of really hoping that Piotr would be biting the dust, especially with Ellis taking over.

I read the subject line and got all excited! I thought, "Finally! The Inside on DVD! Kick-ass!"

And then I was sad. Because it's not on DVD. And that is sad.

I do like this lucky fellow's* Danny icon, though.

*He's lucky because he gets to kiss me and because I just bought him the new Michael Ondaatje book. I am an awesome girlfriend!

Sorry for the false excitement. But I guess since they finally put out Twin Peaks season 2 on DVDs, there might be some hope for "The Inside?"

Tim Minear mentioned that it might be possible in the future to release "Strange World" and "The Inside" as a dual set DVD release. That would be the most awesome thing ever, and given that Tim Kring was involved, it might be possible now with the success of "Heroes". Maybe we need some sort of a renewed DVD campaign for both shows. Unfortunately though, I think I'm the only person I know who ever watched "Strange World" and "The Inside" was kind of not fully embraced by even the Joss/Minearverse fans.

That's a great Danny icon. Also? You're awesome in general. ;)

Thank you /blushes

I really have no idea what people's problem with The Inside was. Anyone who liked the fourth season of Angel should have been all up ons. But they weren't all up ons. And part of that is FOX's fault, but Andy and I were never really able to sense a fandom developing at all.

FOX is totally to blame for my own early indifference to the show. I stuck around for the Tim Minear love, but really, "Everything Nice" should've been the second episode that aired, as intended. They aired three episodes in a row that pretty much had the same kind of plot and all featured Rebecca getting kidnapped/trapped by the suspect before airing an episode that actually showed us Rebecca's other issues.

And there's some fandomy type things going on here: theinsidefic. Not huge, but it's possibly bigger than the fanfic side of the Twin Peaks fandom, which is another fandom with a tragic lack of fanfic.

Brilliant summation of why The Inside is made of win. I think that I regret that The Inside was cancelled more than any other brilliant series that has been (with the possible exception of Firefly). It had a lot more to give.

I was particularly fascinated to see why Mel was in the team. Danny's capacity for controlled violence and Carter's computer skills were obvious reasons for their inclusion but it was hard to see what unique skills she brought to the mix which, because of how good the show was, made me think that there were interesting secrets about her to be revealed.

With "Firefly," I feel like the movie really helped me come to terms with some of the arcs, so I'm okay with where it ended. I'm still really interested in Inara's back story, but I also think that we'll likely get it in one form or another since Joss seems so dedicated to it still. "The Inside" though? Is gone for good, and it's tragic that no one really seems to care. I'm amazed that this show was pretty much overlooked not by people in general but also by the Joss/Minear-verse people. It wasn't even popular enough to get a DVD release, which just seems wrong. Procedural dramas seem to be so insanely popular that I doubt that it wouldn't have found an intelligent fan base if FOX had aired it at the right time.

I can actually see "The Inside" as a kick-ass comic series, along the lines of Bendis' Alias, which it actually kind of reminds me of in some ways, but no one involved with the show really seems to be interested in a continuation. I really would've liked Mel's back story, and kind of even Danny's because I'm pretty ( ... )

Inara's backstory is one of the most interesting mysteries still outstanding. But you're right that we'll get it in some form. Even now I know there is another comic coming out.
But then Joss remained dedicated to it because of the fan support of it. At least he's said as much himself.
I'm amazed at how little attention The Inside has got. I mean there aren't any fan sites even and yet I know so many people who love the series. Considering they're both great series what is it that makes Firefly so popular and The Inside so forgotten?
Maybe people just aren't as willing to get so invested in something so dark? Or is that an optimistic interpretation?

That would be brilliant!

I think the difference between the popularity of Firefly and "The Inside" probably has to do with two things. 1). Joss Whedon has an insanely devoted fan base that is willing to worship at his altar for putting out even crappy fiction (Really, Astonishing X-men is, by no means whatsoever, the best X-men comic run ever). Tim Minear doesn't have that kind of pull when it comes to bringing people into his universe, and it seems like while a lot of Jossverse people tuned into "The Inside," they gave up on it pretty quickly ( ... )
