So the Season 3 Fargument is that the Trumprussia era was caused by digital technology - e.g. hacks, fake news, emails, Russian-doll shell corporations - that leaves all of us uncertain of what's real. The age of stamps, phone books, libraries, and faucet handles is praised in comparison.
All presented pretty heavy-handedly, though broadly true I guess. So are we in for a countercultural movement fetishizing analogue stuff? I think the Indie scene was kind of already doing that ten years ago, wasn't it. Or was that a rearguard action, this a revolutionary one? Brooklyn rents leaving people unable to afford new stuff vs. the gradual realization that iPhones are kind of bad at most of their 10,000 functions?
One hears about 13 Reasons Why-inspired cassette tape tattoos, though. I vaguely comprehend nostalgia for vinyl, but has there ever been a more annoying technology than tape? Makes one suspicious this back-to-reality turn may be more fake news.
