Summary/Notes: Jazz is frustrated that he didn’t get to pursue a relationship with Prowl. (I do not own Transformers.)
Jazz hated Sentinel Prime. That was an amazing feat since Jazz was able to get along with pretty much anyone, even mechs he didn’t like. Jazz had enjoyed his time on Earth. He believed Optimus Prime about the Decepticon threat even though there was no clear evidence to support the Prime’s claims. Jazz also thought Sentinel Prime was unreasonably harsh with Optimus. Clearly there was some bad energon between the two Primes although Jazz did not know any of the details. Still, Jazz had been around Sentinel long enough to know he was a complete aft. That alone though was not enough of a reason to hate him.
The reason Jazz hated Sentinel was how he had treated Prowl. When the pompous Prime has railed on the black and gold ninjabot for failure to follow procedures when performing a simple task, Jazz had bristled. Prowl was not a member of the Elite Guard. True, Prowl did report to Optimus but Optimus was not a member of the Elite Guard either. Neither of them was required to follow all of the procedures and protocols which bound Jazz.
Think of all the fun I’ve missed
The words of the song passed through Jazz’s processor. After Sentinel’s harsh words Prowl had made himself scarce. Just when Jazz had started to get Prowl to spar with him and spend some time together in meditation, Sentinel had to spout off and send Prowl into hiding. Jazz knew it wasn’t fear of Sentinel, no, Prowl could break the mech without effort. Prowl had simply decided Sentinel wasn’t worth his time.
Jazz knew Prowl still completed all of his duties but he rarely saw Prowl when he was on duty and never when he wasn’t.
Think of all the fellas that I haven’t kissed
More lyrics pushed through Jazz’s processor. He changed the words slightly in his thoughts. Think of the mech I haven’t kissed.
That was the reason he hated Sentinel. Jazz had left Earth without even being able to say a proper goodbye to Prowl, preferably in private. The closest Jazz had been to Prowl had been while they were sparring. Jazz had been able, however briefly, to get his servos on Prowl’s plating. True, it was while delivering blows but it was still contact. That was all Jazz had.
In frustration Jazz kicked the end of his berth. The movement caused a small object to fall off the shelf above his berth. Jazz reached over for the object. It was a small box wrapped in green paper tied with a red ribbon. The gift was so neatly and perfectly wrapped that Jazz could only stare at it for a while not wanting to undo the perfection that was unmistakably Prowl’s doing. Jazz wondered briefly how Prowl had gotten the package into Jazz’s quarters but then he was a ninjabot as well. It wouldn’t have been too difficult. He then wondered what was in the package. He knew he could just open it but it almost seemed like it would destroy the moment. Jazz decided to hold on to the small package for a while longer and just look at it. His processor wandered thinking about how Prowl had been in his room. Jazz looked around wondering where he had been and what he had touched. He idly stroked the small box and finally gave a small tug on the ribbon. He lifted the cover off the box as the lid had been wrapped separate from the rest of the box. Jazz appreciated that because he could keep the small box with its pristine wrapping in place, unmarred.
Jazz peered into the box and extracted a memory chip. With a slight frown Jazz placed the chip in his desk console. He discovered Prowl had filled the chip with music of all different styles. Jazz was surprised since he knew Prowl didn’t appear to care much for popular culture. And yet, Prowl had given him something that Jazz really enjoyed.
Jazz smiled and took the box and ribbon intending to put the ribbon in the box and keep them both as reminders of Prowl. Jazz hesitated as he noticed something else in the box. He withdrew a note written in Prowl’s distinctive neat writing. It was very short and simply said,
I hope to see you again soon.
That was it. Jazz smiled. He replaced the note, placed the ribbon in the box and subspaced them to keep them nearby. He downloaded the music files and then sauntered out of his quarters. He soon passed Sentinel Prime but Jazz didn’t even notice. He had hope. He was thinking about the mech he would one day kiss.
