28 Romanticides - Exploring

Aug 28, 2008 23:01

Sorry about the delay, which will sadly continue, RL is keeping me buried. Apologies for bad formatting, lj has decided it absolutely hates me, and keeps reformatting everything and I cannot, for the life of me, change it back.

Brought to you by “Decepticons”, from the Transformers score. Who woulda thunk it? :D Can be heard here.
And the reading legend: bold, for bond-speak. Italitics for comms. Normal for... well, normal. Apologise if this gets complicated. Unbeta’d - you know what that means.

“So,” Jazz leaned on the console, looking down at his mate with an easy smirk, “Any word from the twins yet? They found anything interesting out in the wilds of this place?”

Prowl shook his head. “Who says there is anything of interest out there to be found?”

Jazz offered a chuckle at the other black-and-white’s unimpressed tone, one that was directed at more than just this planet they had awoken on a few weeks earlier.

“The whole planet is crawling with life. There’s gotta be something out there can catch the interest of those two.”

Jazz’s timing was just about perfect, as Prowl responded to an incoming call.

:Sideswipe, calling home: a decidedly bored tone. :Got as far as the point you sent us to, Prowl, and not a thing. S’boring:

Prowl glanced up at Jazz, as the saboteur turned away with a soft sigh, crossing his arms. The tactician sympathised with the frustration, and at the worry that twinged through the bond.

:And, if I have to listen to Sunshine here complain about how organics are bad for his paintwork any longer...: he broke off to respond to another voice that cut through the background, prompting Prowl to shutter his optics in resignation. The sound of weaponsfire and a loud cursing over the comm. had his immediate attention, as well as the other black-and-white now leaning over his shoulder.

“Sideswipe, Sunstreaker, report,” the second in command ordered, frowning at an unfamiliar scrabbling sound that he could only guess was one of the twins ducking for cover.

-Late to the party- Jazz commented, staring at the comm. as if he could see through it. All he received in reply was a trickle of irritation.

:Frag!: it was Sideswipe who responded again, Sunstreaker probably far too engrossed in whatever battle was taking place to reply. :’Cons found us. Huge party of them:

He paused, and there was the sound of louder weaponsfire, and another shift of movement. By that point, other Autobots in the command centre had taken notice of the exchange, and were watching curiously. Jazz turned back to them, demanding to know who of the other scouting parties was closest to the twins.

“Mirage and Bluestreak.”

-Mmm, nice choice- he tossed towards Prowl, instructing that the two be sent to aid the twins.

-One would think I plan things for a living- came the response, causing Jazz to hide his grin as the ETA was relayed. -Besides, it is unlikely they will arrive in time for it to matter-

The entire room continued to listen to the sounds of battle, the occasional curse or whoop making it down the line. Every now and then there was the crackle of static, another shift in position, the heavy ping of laserfire and the screeching of metal on metal.

Jazz was still staring intently down at the comm. and Prowl could feel the thrum of excitement through their sparkbond, met it with his own curling anticipation. Both feelings dissipated into disappointment and apprehension when Sideswipe’s gleeful voice came pouring over the comm.

:You can tell the backup to fall back. We got them all:

:At least those of the sorry fraggers that aren’t running: Sunstreaker chimed in.

Jazz turned a smile over the other cheering, relieved Autobots as Prowl ordered the twins to return. No-one else would have been able to tell any differently from his neutral, frosty tone, but Jazz could feel the pounding resentment emanating from the tactician.

“Shouldn’t underestimate the twins,” he speculated cheerfully.

-Can’t they get anything right?- Prowl didn’t even bother filtering out the disgust at the Decepticons’ failure. -That was the only chance we were going to get at something like that-

Jazz cast a grin across at Blaster. -I know, lover. We’ll just have to find another way. Besides- he leaned back against the console, letting a buzz of mischief drift towards his beloved’s spark -I love seeing the new ways you can come up with to get rid of Autobots-

Note: no, at this point, the Autobots know nothing about the relationship between Jazz and Prowl.
