Hayley peeked open an eye and yelped.

"Who are you?" she said, pulling her bed covers tight against herself. This was a development that she didn't approve of. "What're you doing here?

Beka sighed. It looked like the island hasn't changed in those few hours that she went off to live a lifetime.

She turned towards Hayley, a sad smile on her lips. "It's me, Hayley. Beka Cooper. I know it's been a long time since we last spoke, but surely you must remember me."

"No way," Hayley said, aghast. "You're so old!"

She felt the need to state the obvious, yes.

Beka gave Hayley a strange look, not understanding what the girl was going on about. It'd been hours! A whole night!

"Time passes for everyone," she said instant, remaining calm.

"No kiddin'" Hayley said. "Yours went by extra fast." Hayley just sort of tilted her head.

"...you look kinda nice though."

"Too fast and not fast enough," Beka said warily. She never knew how to handle compliments and she didn't now either. "How have you been, Hayley?"

"Ummm, I just saw ya yesterday," Hayley said. "I've been just swell. Everyone seems to be actin' kinda funny, though."

"Yesterday?" Beka shook her head. "Maybe we should take you down to the clinic. It's been much longer than that!"

"...Gosh, you don't think I was Rip Van Winkle sleeping, do you?" Hayley said, worried. "That'd be awful! What year is it?"

"I forgot what time it used to be when I was here," Beka said wish a shake of her head. "It's been... 25 years. Give or take a few."

"Twenty five years?" Hayley said. "Oh gosh, I must look awful!"

Beka gave her a weird look. "You look fine," she said, not seeing anything odd here. Why would she? Just because only she looked older, that meant nothing. "You still worry too much."

"But I'm... I'm forty-three! And I never got married! What am I going to do?"

...It was a little scary how easily Hayley was misled.

Beka raised an eyebrow at Hayley. "I'm not married either. It isn't the end of the world. Trust me, you're better off."

"But I don't even have a job and I never finished school!" Hayley said. "This is..."

She scrambled out of bed and looked in mirror.
